Our Mission
The primary purpose of the Police Unity Tour is to honour and raise awareness of police officers and staff who have died in the line of duty.
The UK Tour also raises vital funds for Care of Police Survivors (COPS), a charity dedicated to supporting the families of police officers and staff who have lost their lives on duty.
We are proud to be part of the Police Unity Tour and humbled by the opportunity to “Ride for Those Who Died.”
Riding together since 2015
The North East Chapter was founded in 2015 by Darren Kirkwood, Iain Spittal and Richie Murray.
What began with just 12 riders has grown into a close-knit team representing the police family across Cleveland, Durham, Humberside, Northumbria and North Yorkshire.
Everyone involved shares the same purpose: remembering fallen colleagues, supporting their families and raising funds for Care of Police Survivors.
About The Tour
The Police Unity Tour began in 1997, when 18 cyclists rode from New Jersey to Washington, D.C. Since then, it has grown into an international movement involving thousands of riders and raising millions of dollars in support of fallen officers and their families.
Inspired by the extraordinary fundraising efforts of the Police Unity Tour in the United States, Metropolitan Police officers organised the UK’s first Police Unity Tour in 2013 in aid of Care of Police Survivors.
Today, chapters from across the country ride together in remembrance, ensuring that the sacrifice of fallen colleagues is never forgotten.
